What does paying by Direct Debit mean for me?

The main benefit of using Direct Debit to pay for your Snip subscription is that you are covered by the Direct Debit Guarantee, which helps protects your payments and ensures you’re kept up to date with any changes to them.

Direct Debits are also very easy to set up and fully automated, so there’s no need to worry about missing a payment and losing access to Snip when you’re at the tills.

Direct Debits can also be cancelled in a number of ways, either by heading to your profile page on Snip, by emailing us with your request at help@getsnip.co.uk or by contacting your bank directly.

Direct Debit has also been around for a long time, with its beginnings in 1964, so it’s something the majority of our members are familiar with.

The charges also tend to be lower than taking payments via credit or debit cards, which is how we’re able to keep our prices low.

Are there any downsides to using Direct Debit?

The main issue with Direct Debit is that it can be a bit inflexible on its timings. Payments are processed through a 3-Day BACS cycle between your bank and our bank. This means it can sometimes take a little while longer to process payments as they cannot be made on weekends or bank holidays. This won’t affect your access to Snip, but may mean that some of your payments are taken a little later than usual depending on which day your subscription charges fall.

It also means that cancellations made just before your renewal date, or just before your free trial ends may not leave enough time for your bank to cancel your next subscription payment. Please do not worry if this happens to you, the amount charged will be refunded to you in full. However the refund process may take up to 10 days for it to show correctly on your bank statement.

When this happens you’ll receive an email like the one below from GoCardless and a follow up from our help team to confirm the refund due.
